i am currently downloading the beta/demo for supreme commander you must be a file planet member to get in the closed beta, so get in it and we might be able to run enough copies to make a lan party interesting. |

| Kruger is off his rocker. He must be stopped...he just said that he would like to "be able to catch a baseball and have it talk to him". He is obviously high...or drunk. I can't tell which. Either way, his ideas will ruin the game of baseball, not to mention emotionally scar children for life. Who's with me, we need a coordinated strike against Kruger now. It's obvious to me that he's under the influence of the Shadows...if we don't act now, there won't be a world left to protect. | |

Phantasy Star Universe has an "All your base" reference. It also thinks it's an anime with opening and closing sequences just like a TV show. |

ok, so as far as the lan goes, here are my thoughts It sounds like there is a place for both spoolan and for a Big Milwaukee Lan like the bridge wars of 1855. I dont have any solid plans this winter other than daves party on december 2nd. I would like to try the Midwest lan on Jan 6th-7th 2006, but i think a spring lan at bucketworks might be pretty sweet. Doing smaller lans at bucketworks, might make the alcohol more or less of an issue, James does not have a problem with it, but JJ probably will not let us borrow his very large keggarator, and renting one may or may not be worth it, but since people seem not to want to just put 25$ in the pot for smaller lans, renting kegs and getting 35 gallons of beer at a time are hard to pull off without a generous benifactor. So, my guess is that if we want keg beer for a smaller lan, then my place is best, but i can not host more than 15-20 people and i would like to give my neighbors notice. This time around i am going to require lcd monitors or projectors, it really makes a difference on the power layout and i think everyone has one, but bosar and i have him covered. LCD's also take up a lot less room and power. I would like to find a better solution for parking, bucketworks has a much better situation there, but i may be able to find a solution for that at my place if my neighbors take off for the weekend. Is there anything else I should look into? Out of state participants, etc.... The fusion center may also be an option, but no sleeping is allowed there, we would also have to act somewhat professional like we did durring the korporate media shoots. We would also not be allowed to have the lan between normal business hours. Weekends should be fine. |

Looks like either the 9th or 16th of December to choose from for the annual Oldskool party. And as the man said, why not have it all. It's been a long time. I'd also like to do the Jan 13th "B_W B_day" LAN for some Prey, Steam, and whatever else proper. And Kruger said he'd start the ball rolling for a larger, pay-2-play event at Bucketworks sometime in the spring. |

The Dream BBQ Child would very much like to make a 386 sweat with some good ole' Tank Wars / Scorched Earth action. Advance notice would be good. We're going to be moving a lot of equipment out of work at the end of this year. I know I'm going to Georgia next month and I think there's a resonable chance I'm going to be going up to Canada sometime thereafter. Currently, I'm mostly concerned about that possible Canada. The sooner we get a date for that one the more likely I'll be able to come. |

You didn't...download it...did you Peter? Because then you've unleashed the curse of the download upon your head! This is weird al's technique to try and destroy civilization as we know it! May God have mercy on your 'internet song downloading' soul! B_W |

What's even more amazing about Weird Al's success with this album is that he offered all of the tracks free for download off of his website as mp3's. Explain that RIAA! If internet downloading truly takes away from album sales, Weird Al really screwed himself over! He would've had the #1 selling album if he didn't have all of his tracks available for download free at his site! Something tells me that this is not the case... ("Even Lars Ulrich knows it's wrong..."). I just wanted to point out the irony of having free downloads of Weird Al's song "Don't Download this Song". |

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/23/music.yankovic.reut/index.html Weird Al makes a good point here. He's got his video and his tunes all over the net, and he's selling more than ever. Shouldn't the internet be taking all his business away? Making him eat top raman out of some kind of reused tin can? Interesting... B_W |

Tells ya what, I'm down for bolstering the Milwaukee LAN scene by helping organize this MASS LAN carnage. But I also enjoy the more intimate events, good friends and good times. Nothing to say that we can't 'have it all'. Also, I think post korporate party and pre christmas we should celebrate another 'oldschool event'. (as is our tradition) I'm up for hosting if Kruger isn't, but it would be better at Krugers. Pick a weekend, preferably one where Jim can come up, and DBBQC and come down. (or get down, either way) Whaddaya think? David |

If you can get 50 people to a bucketworks LAN that would be cool and I'd love to go. But that would take some serious planning work which I don't have time for (at least not until next year), and it wouldn't really be spooLAN. Based on the WIKI people are going to complain no matter what you charge, so I wish you luck. Unless there's a unifying theme (QuakeCon, Tribal Wars) a 50 man LAN is just going to turn into a half dozen smaller LANs in one room anyway, since there isn't really anything that 50 people can play at once except for WoW Battlegrounds. Don't get me wrong; and I want it to happen so I can go to it, but I'm not going to get invested in the planning/whining/crying. I still want to do a keg and some TankWars / Armagetron with old friends at some point, though. |

i am up for a lan soon, but i would like to grow our lan efforts for 2007 to a 50-150 person lan party, there are none of that caliber in our neck of the woods and we have the equipment to do it at bucketworks with nearly no risk. I am acumilating a list of easy sponsors to get if we can get 50 people. I am also working on local sponsorship for bandwidth, etc... as there was an interest to continue supporting tech events at bucketworks from our barcamp sponsors. so, do we want to keep our lans small, or are we willing to grow spoolan? i am going to continue planing for the larger LAN at http://barcampmilwaukee.com/index.php?title=Milwaukee_LanParties%3F if you want to help. |

I think we should just pick a weekend in January and check it with Bucketworks. And it should cost as much as people want to pay. I'd hope we could raise money at least for Pip's keg services and a decent kickback to Bucketworks. But obviously the more the merrier. So how bout January 13th/14th? Oh and I hear the new UT is running late because Epic has been so busy masturbating over Gears of War. But Tycho says the results are worth it. In the mean time I got Prey on my mind, and those new videos on Steam for Portal and Team Fortress 2 make me happy in my own pants. Which I am wearing, but only because I am at work. |

| I doubt anything will be wrong with the Wii hardware. At my 10 year HS reunion one of my former classmates who now works for IBM called the Wii a beefed up GameCube with a single Cell. No HD doesn't bother me though. I'll be playing Wii more for the innovative game play. The more hard core gaming will be done happily on the XBox 360. | |

I've never had any [hardware] 'issues' with my 360. However, if by 'issues', you mean 'eye popping HD graphics with a very strong title lineup and an unparalleled online community', then I might have had quite a few of these, 'issues'. I will be getting on the Wii bandwagon, but I am dissapointed in it's lack of HD. I guess we will just have to see what Wiis out in the Wii. B_Wii{sky) p.s. I still don't think they actually have a real working PS3 yet!!! ;) OK, I am sure they do...but it *might* be made of balsa wood! BWWWAHHAHAHA! |

For those who are fans of LOST and Firefly/Serenity, here's some exciting news: "Captain Tightpants", Nathan Fillion, has joined the show LOST. While it is unclear what his role in the series will exactly be, we do know who's flashback it revolves around and it is more than just a one-time guest starring spot. http://whedonesque.com/comments/11552#more (be warned LOST fans, the story forwards to a major spoiler site). While we're at it: Alan Tudyk (Wash on Firefly/Serenity, the robot Sonny from "I, Robot") will also be appearing on an episode of CSI now that he's finished his run on Spamalot. (Check out www.whedonesque.com for more on this if you're interested) |

I'd heard the Wii hardware was mostly just a repackaged Gamecube, so the hardware may be more tested and reliable than PS3 and Xbox360. My question is whether the WiiMotes (WTF?) work as well as advertised and how tired my arms will be using them. ;) Now that I have a video card that can run the new shaders well I've been hoping to dive deeper into Prey, but I still don't see that happening until after the film festival deadlines are behind me. I definitely want to try the crazy multiplayer at the next LAN though. |

We are for Wii up here (After I'm sure it doesn't have any hardware issues. After a year I FINALLY have a good enough laptop and I'm not eager to fight that again) and Xbox 360 is getting GTA 4 and Phantasy Star Universe. I'll miss Tekken and Gran Turismo but not enough to keep anyone from getting their PS3. Also been meaning to mention that I liked Pray. |

for any of you that might care, I had to do some research about living in MKE and working in chicago it seems that for an extra $5+ an hour it starts to make sense to take the train. (40hr x 4wks =$160/wk x $5 = $800) ($800 x 50%[gov SMB rape fee] = $400) or i would have them pay for my time on the train, since i can work with my verizon card on the train , and pay for my train pass. taking care of travel myself, and getting the bump in money per hr means that if i move, or i telecommute i still get the rate bonus. Milwaukee, WI (MKE) / Chicago - Union Station, IL (CHI) Valid Travel Period $158.00 One Ten-Ride Ticket The ten-ride ticket is valid for ten rides within a 45-day period. limited PlayStation 3 Pre-order GameStop and EB Games stores will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 console on Tuesday, October 10, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to deplete this allocation very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at this time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $100 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household. Our limited online pre-order program will be announced at a later date, after software and accessory availability details are confirmed. Online product pricing and availability will vary and will be fulfilled independent of store reservations. |

| Dr. Ice? You don't mean Dr./Mr. Freeze, do you? You had to bring that up didn't you? And here I thought we had successfully blocked Batman and Robin from our collective consciousness as a society. Something about Arnold in glittering blue makeup singing the Snow Miser song from the 1970's claymation holiday special "Year Without a Santa Claus" ("I'm mister white christmas, I'm mister snow. I'm mister icicle, I'm mister ten below") is simultaneously the funniest as well as the most disturbing thing I've ever seen in one of the Governator's movies. Now if you don't mind, I am going to go look for something sharp so that I can stab my mind's eye. | |

Today's Big Science News!: -html deleted- Congrats to Dr. Andrew Fire and Dr. Craig Mello who were announced today as the winners of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Medicine! They won for discovering what is now a very prominently used gentic tool called RNA Interference or RNAi for short. RNAi is a way of silencing the effects of a gene without knocking it out (which used to be the predominant way to test a gene's function). The problem with knocking out a gene is that the cell sometimes has mechanisms to compensate for the missing gene. But RNAi leaves the gene intact while "silencing" the RNA copy of the gene (thus no protein encoded by that gene is made). This was a huge discovery and it's importance is evident that it only took 8 years from the time the discovery was made and the time the Nobel prize was awarded (typically, someone's work is only rewarded 20-25 years later by the Nobel committee). I've had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Fire at a meeting once, and I must say that it couldn't have happened to a nicer individual. Congrats Dr. Fire! |

Point two, Bucketworks is willing to host a lan party. *we can fit maybe 300 computers there, but i say lets shoot for 50-150 *we can sleep over night *we can park for free over night *the space might be free, but I would like to charge 25$ for the event to cover food and a donation to bucketworks. *they have internet access, but they are going to get an upgrade sooooon. *if you are interested in a bucketworks lanpary visit http://barcampmilwaukee.com/index.php?title=Milwaukee_LanParties%3F point 3 if you would like to sugest a date, do it on the barcamp milwaukee wiki for now |
